About Mais AL-Sheikhly
Mais Al-Sheikhly is an Iraqi-Canadian contemporary artist whose work explores themes of identity, justice, and the complexity of human emotion. Born in Baghdad and later immigrating to Canada, her artistic journey reflects personal experiences of cultural transition and resilience. Art became a powerful form of expression through which she could translate emotions, memories, and social observations onto the canvas. Working primarily in abstract and cubist-inspired styles, Al-Sheikhly uses vibrant colour, layered textures, and dynamic compositions to create visually striking works that invite viewers to reflect on the human condition.
Alongside her artistic practice, Al-Sheikhly pursued studies in science and pharmacy, but continued to develop her artistic voice through a series of thematic collections that address global and social issues, including justice, cultural identity, and human relationships. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Art Expo New York, Red Dot Miami during Art Basel Week, and exhibitions in Toronto and Amman. Through her bold and expressive paintings, Al-Sheikhly encourages dialogue about the contrasts of good and evil, justice and injustice, and the shared experiences that connect humanity.
