Shaping and Shifting, Blake Milteer Graphite on wood panel, 45.5 × 61 cm

Blake Milteer

Drawing is a tactile way of rendering characteristic aspects of the landscape and represents my experiences and memories. I often revisit the same landscapes over many years, in different weather, light, and frame of mind, to show the subtle changes in these environments.

About Blake Milteer

Blake Milteer is an American artist living in Edinburgh. He is an illustrator, most notably of intricate landscape drawings that reflect the complexity and subtlety of these environments. Milteer also works in photography and video.

Blake has found landscape to be his most enduring subject matter, often returning to the same areas over many years in different conditions. The artist takes numerous photographs in these places, then creates intricate drawings in the studio, combining elements from the photographs with memories and intuitive mark-making.

For over two decades, Blake curated for organisations such as the National Galleries of Scotland, the National Library of Scotland, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Centre, and the Denver Art Museum.

He holds a BFA in Fine Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MA in Art History and Museum Studies from the University of Denver.
