Title: Somewhere Becoming Rain
Simon Middleton
What I strive for in all my work is a sense of timelessness, something that feels discovered rather than made.
I want the work to evoke a feeling that it might have always existed, as if the images were artefacts unearthed from some deep cultural memory.

About Simon Middleton
Simon Middleton is a British-Irish artist based in England. His portfolio comprises oil paintings that use impasto layers of colour and wax oil pastel drawings on paper, canvas, and wood panels. Simon’s process involves gestural mark-making, mixing colours on the canvas, and scoring, scraping, or polishing the surface with oil to unify the tactile flow and three-dimensional depth that characterise his finished art pieces. Simon’s art explores forms and states that emerge from somewhere between the ancient, mythical, natural, and deeply personal.
Simon’s fine art career began in the 2010s using textiles as a medium to explore texture and abstraction. This laid the groundwork for his emotional impressionism style that uses bold colour and instinctive form to evoke mood, and memory.
