Vitali Moiseev

Vitaly Moiseev is a London-based British artist of Ukrainian origin whose practice brings together painting, sculpture and traditional craftsmanship. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in material, texture and precision. Central to his practice is Emboss Art, his signature approach combining painting with sculptural relief to create richly tactile surfaces in which light becomes an integral part of the work. His compositions often incorporate gilding and metal leaf, bringing depth, luminosity and an almost architectural quality to the canvas.

Moiseev's work reflects his extensive background across fine art, engraving, design and sculpture, while exploring themes of memory, nature, symbolism and human emotion. He has exhibited internationally across Europe and the United States and was a finalist in the London Art Biennale 2025. His work is held in private collections internationally, while his wider artistic practice includes work represented in museum collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Through his meticulous, highly labour-intensive process, Moiseev creates works that sit between painting and sculpture, inviting the viewer to experience the image not only through colour and composition, but through surface, relief and changing light.

More About Vitali

Vitaly Moiseev's artistic development has been shaped by an unusually broad range of disciplines. His experience encompasses fine art, engraving, sculpture, jewellery and design, giving him a deep understanding of materials and traditional making techniques. This multidisciplinary background is evident in the precision and craftsmanship of his work, where surfaces are carefully constructed through multiple stages rather than simply painted. His approach combines the discipline of an artisan with the expressive freedom of a contemporary artist.

Each work is created through a meticulous and highly labour-intensive process of building, carving, gilding and finishing by hand. Relief, texture and metallic surfaces allow the appearance of the work to shift as the surrounding light changes, revealing details that may not immediately be apparent. This interplay between material, light and image gives Moiseev's work a strong physical presence and encourages closer viewing, creating pieces that occupy a distinctive space between painting, relief and sculpture.
