André Bachleda
André Bachleda is a Polish contemporary artist whose vibrant paintings capture movement, energy and the freedom of life in the mountains. Born in Poland in 1975 and raised in the French Alps, André draws on his experiences as a professional skier, musician and traveller. His work is characterised by bold colours, expressive forms and dynamic compositions, with skiing and mountain landscapes featuring prominently in his paintings.
His distinctive style combines contemporary figurative painting with elements of abstraction and expressionism. Through sweeping lines, strong contrasts and unusual perspectives, André brings a sense of speed and excitement to his work. Alongside his skiing subjects, he also paints cities and other scenes inspired by his travels and experiences. His paintings have been exhibited internationally, including in London, Paris, Rome, Warsaw and New York, and are held in private collections across Europe and North America.
More About André
From Olympic Skier to Contemporary Artist
André comes from a family with a remarkable history in skiing and music. His father was a World Championship medallist in alpine skiing, while his grandfather was both a Polish skiing champion and an opera singer. André followed in their footsteps, becoming an accomplished international skier. He represented Poland at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, finishing fifth in the alpine combined event, and competed again at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He was also a three-time Polish national champion. Having spent much of his life in the Mont Blanc region, skiing and the mountains remain central to his identity and artistic inspiration.
Painting initially offered André a creative escape from the pressures of competitive sport. Inspired by the pioneering speed skier Steve McKinney, he began exploring ways to capture the movement, skill and freedom of skiing on canvas. His first-hand knowledge of the sport allows him to portray each turn, jump and movement with a natural understanding of the subject. Music is another important part of his life. Having studied at the University of Denver, André is also a composer and guitarist who has combined musical performances with art exhibitions. His interests in sport, music and travel come together in paintings that celebrate rhythm, movement and the joy of personal expression.
